Rep. Gay-Dagnogo Takes Oath of Office
LANSING — State Rep. Sherry Gay-Dagnogo (D-Detroit) joined her House colleagues today to open the new legislative session at the ceremonial swearing-in held in the House Chamber at the state Capitol. Rep. Gay-Dagnogo was sworn in by state Supreme Court Justice Bridget Mary McCormack, and was joined by her mother Willie Ruth Gay, her aunt Bessie Wilson, her cousins Marvella Glen and Evan Chaney, her uncle Airman Donald Huckson and staff member Nathaniel Winston.
“My first term saw a lot of incredible things unfolding across the state and in Detroit,” said Rep. Gay-Dagnogo. “As always, I will continue fighting for the people of House District 8, and work to find measurable, real-world solutions to the issues facing our city, and we know there are many. Moving forward, we must all work together to empower Detroit and the change makers in it, so we can address needs on the ground as they develop. I will keep fighting to strengthen our communities, to improve our education system and to ensure that Detroit remains on a path for growth and success.”
Rep. Gay-Dagnogo will serve as the vice chair of the Detroit Caucus for the 2017-18 legislative term, as well as representing House District 8, which encompasses northwest Detroit, including the Bethune, Brightmoor, Castle Rouge, College Park and Grandmont-Rosedale communities.
