LANSING – State Representative Robert Dean (D-Grand Rapids) today announced that the results of his first constituent survey have been tallied and are available for review on his Web site. Dean also expressed gratitude to each of his constituents who returned the survey, which included questions on a variety of state government issues such as Canadian and out-of-state trash, Great Lakes water and post-secondary education.
"It is my responsibility as a State Representative to listen to the people in my district," Dean said. "I am in Lansing to represent them, and knowing how they are affected by these issues will only help me serve them better."
In April, Dean mailed a newsletter to more than 32,000 citizens containing a survey. Of 337 returned surveys: 84 percent said they believed out-of-state and Canadian trash is a problem in Michigan; 34 percent said they support requiring all girls entering the sixth grade to receive a vaccination that protects against cervical cancer; 79 percent said they anticipate their child pursuing a post-secondary education; 65 percent said they oppose drilling in or under the Great Lakes; 66 percent support banning smoking in all restaurants in Michigan; and 50 percent said they believe voters in Michigan should be allowed to vote by absentee ballot for any reason.

"Gathering as much information as possible and hearing as many points of view as possible will only help me serve my district, and Michigan, better," Dean said. "By working together, we can keep our community a great place to live, work and raise a family."
