It was just exceptional to see young and old celebrating our people's culture, our history, celebrating life. I was really excited on last night. I was having a lot of flashbacks reminiscing. You know, my grandfather was former slave who was 104 when he passed in 1964 and so it was time of reflections, it was a time of visions, of looking to the present as well as looking into the future.

I've traveled to 25 countries and I've seen some things taking place in other countries and I'm like, why are we not doing this? What's holding us back? And I think times are dictating to us that we have to look at things differently, we can't do things the same way, so renewable energy is one way that we have to look at, where I think we're a force to look at.

I thought that it was exciting, bold, visionary. Putting Michigan back to work, while galvanizing... I thought it was calling us all as legislators, both sides of the aisle, to work together, challenging us, those were some of the feelings I was feeling, that, you know, put aside partisanship, put aside politics and let's work together. If we love this state, if we love it's people, there are resources that are untapped, that are unused that we can use. We can change, diversify, our economy. And we can be better than before.
